My girlfriend bleeds during sex

My girlfriend bleeds during sex
Question
My girlfriend and I are very concerned that during sexual intercourse she is bleeding. We are unsure what this is as there is no pain. This happens probably about 90 per cent of the time. We have been with each other approximately six months and have been having intercourse for about three months. Both of us have had a few partners and she has had four yet has never had this problem before. She is 21 and is concerned at why the bleeding persists because if it was a case of getting used to a new partner then surely the bleeding would have stopped by now? As I said before there is no pain whatsoever but the bleeding, although not excessive, is fairly substantial.
Answer
Can I just give you a basic medical rule? Any woman who keeps bleeding after sex needs to have an internal examination by a doctor. This is a common symptom. The good news is that at your girlfriend's age of 21 the cause is unlikely to be very serious. Possible causes of bleeding include:

a polyp in the vagina.
a wound caused by love play.
an inflammation or erosion of the cervix.Anyway, just in case it's anything more serious, your girlfriend should get herself examined in the next week or so.
